“Natural Treatment” for high blood pressure?

i!i!i!i!i! asked:

Is there an alternative, more natural way to lower blood pressure? (non-pill-popper)
Also, will taking the medication prescribed cause the body to be dependent on the medicine? If I begin to take them, then stop taking it, will it do more harm than good?

*Baby BOY due 2/14/09* asked:

Okay so I’m 26 weeks pregnant when I went for my 20 week check up, I was 21 weeks and my blood pressure was high. This is my second pregnancy, with my first pregnancy 3.5 years ago I had twins and had blood pressure problems that later ended up with me being delivered due to pre-E but my blood pressure issue also started early on with them also. I was NEVER offered medication for blood pressure instead i was told to lay on my side if it went down all was okay if not then i was put on modified bed rest..

This pregnancy I have a different dr, my old drs sold their practice and this is the dr that took it over. When i went for my 21 week appointment, like i said my BP was high, she didnt retake it or anything and wrote me a script for blood pressure medication. I went home researched the medication and decided not to take it, i didnt feel that based on one reading of high blood pressure i needed to take it, i took my bp every few days at the store and it was normal most the time, i had a few high reading but on average it was really good.I then went last week and she asked if i was taking my medication, i told her no and she was really upset and said she wanted me to go to another dr so that it is documented that im refusing treatment.. I was actually offended by her actions and the fact that she didnt want to listen to me, I’m not completely opposed to medication if it is needed, i just didnt feel that based on ONE high reading i needed medication, i told her I would rather try some diet changes and other things first, and she responded that at my age that will not work at all. I’m 25.. why would it not work? I just find it odd that she never retook it to double check, instead wanted to give me medication without first talking about alternatives.. Like I said I will take it if i have to, im just not sure if i do.. After i had my twins i was put on medication cause my BP would not go down and my heart rate was way to high.. the medication made me feel so horrible i was always about to faint.. I just cant imagine feeling that way being pregnant taking care of 2 three year olds..

Anyways, that got really long.. Have any of you taken blood pressure medication when pregnant? Did your dr try other things first? what is your view on this?

Please dont respond with “dr knows best” I’m sorry I do not feel that is always the case so please do not waste your time..

Also I am going to a MFM dr, who was the dr i also seen when i was pregnant with my twins, he is going to review my blood pressure issue and I also have a kidney problem (brought on by pregnancy) that was debilitating my last pregnancy and it is coming back.. they could be linked, which my current dr even told me but didnt say that until after she was mad about me not filling the prescription.
my BP when she gave me the script was 137/86 then my last appointment when she got mad it was 140/90.. however like i said i have been taking it and it has not been high like that.

Also my kidney issue has nothing to due with high blood pressure.. but could cause high blood pressure..

Thanks everyone for the input.. glad to see I was not totally out of line

Is a doctor guilty of anything if he delayed treatment but no harm resulted?

cj asked:

First of all I NEVER go to the doctor but I get a routine physical each year. Last December 4th I had been sick for 2 weeks with a bad cough and bronchitis-like symptoms. I finally was told go to doctor by my concerned employer because they felt there might be MOLD in our office. I went that very day to my DR. of two years and he did chest xray and prescribed antibiotic. That treatment worked and I also found there was no MOLD. More than a week later the DR. contacted me to come in for treatment of high blood pressure recorded during the Dec 4 visit. By the time I was called I was recovered and did not have high BP and declined to see the DR. for this again. He wrote on Feb. 18th he had discharged me as his patient due to ‘non-compliance’. I ask you, why did he not treat the high blood pressure the moment I was in distress???? And why dismiss me now, as I do NOT have High BP.
I ran out of room on the first detail. To answer the question I know I do NOT have HP because my husband does and we both monitor our BP. I do it with a separate cuff to encourage him. That is coincidental to my situation too and I wanted to add it. My husband’s BP is 100% under control through medication due to his work, which like my employer require yearly physical. Thanks.
As I said, this DR. did not even address my BP at time of visit. Where was the concern then? I was taking 3 different OTC medicatations: Dayquil, Nyquil, Robitussin by the time I was seen and those were making me sick at my stomach and I coudnt take it anymore. Thanks.
Marco, you are so right. And this non-compliance issue is my concern too. Will I be able to find another physician? This whole situation is crazy. I mean I didn’t accuse him of anything or ask questions until the ‘non-compliance’ issue came up. I didn’t even know what non-compliance was and had to ask. Thanks.
Mom, I declined the offer to return is what happened and it was over the phone where the nurse called me later. I guess I should have gone, in hindsight, and would have if I reazlied he could dismiss me. It all seems very unfortunate. Thanks.

High Blood Pressure caused by stress: any drug-free treatment?

high blood pressure treatment
Hadrianus asked:

I regularly check my blood pressure and recently, my blood pressure has been at the range from Prehypertension to Stage 1 Hypertension. I had a detailed physical exam a couple of weeks ago, and the doctor said it had nothing to do with what I ate. Not to mention, I eat VERY healthy. I eat mostly fruits and vegetables, very little meat, and almost no junk food at all (I’m not overweight/obese) either.

People have told me to “watch my diet,” but as I’ve mentioned, I eat very healthy, and it has almost nothing to do with what I eat. So at this point, we are all assuming that my high blood pressure is caused by a series of stress from school, family, and friends–making it so I also lack sleep at the same time. I know “getting more sleep” is obviously a helpful treatment, but I’m looking for some more advice from health experts.

Is there any way I can treat this (i.e. meditation, more exercise, etc.)? Any other facts or advice related to high blood pressure are also welcome! Thank you!
Thanks to the people who have answered this question so far. But please, if you’re not going to read the details of this question, at least read the title of the question. I am looking for DRUG-FREE treatment…not pills or any kind of medication.
